This position is responsible for providing a broad range of Neurology services to Veterans receiving care at the VAMC. Duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the Medical Center.The Physician follows established guidelines, ethics, and policies and protocols of the Neurology Service, SLVHCS, Department of VHA, and the profession. Each Neurologist functions as a cooperative and collegial team member with the entire staff. The position is for a board eligible, board certified Neurologist who will perform comprehensive neurological exams for veteran patients. Primary duties are to perform full general neurological examinations on established or newly consulted patients in the Neurology clinics, for signs or symptoms of neurologic dysfunction. The position will qualify for credentialing and privileging for admission, evaluation, treatment, consultation, telehealth, order diagnostic studies and procedures and perform general Neurology procedures except as specifically excluded from practice, on patients of all ages with symptoms of neurological dysfunction. The staff Neurologist performs full neurological exams and supervises Neurology residents and medical students throughout SLVHCS. The incumbent also initiates changes in the system for delivering care based on evidence based medicine research and /or studies. He or she assesses, plans, implements, coordinates and evaluates educational programs. He or she teaches effectively and creatively and provides guidance to others involved in the delivery of the educational program. The incumbent promotes and assists others in the application of findings from research and or studies. The Neurologist works within her or his privileges at all times.The Neurologist is expected to maintain current knowledge and skills. She or he must be able to deliver interventions throughout the full spectrum of neurology care; i.e. s/he is expected to maintain good diagnostic and therapeutic acumen. Teaching is an integral part of the work of a VA staff Neurologist. This pertains to colleagues, residents, medical and nursing students, nursing and other ancillary staff. The staff Neurologist exercises corporate citizenship by serving as leader and/or active member on Medical Center committees as requested. Timely documentation (notes and encounter forms) is necessary in all areas in accordance with facility policy. All administrative work should be completed in a timely fashion. All VA requirements must be met on a timely basis. TOUR OF DUTY: Monday-Friday, Days - 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Other Shifts, as needed. (40 hour work week/80 hour two week pay period). Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organization (e.g., professional, philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
